About Us

DASH Wine Co. is the brain child of Dave Kegele and Ash Thomson, two wine aficionados. The grapes were sourced from the Pyrenees region and placed in the capable hands of wine maker Michael Kyberd. We hope you enjoy it as much as we've enjoyed creating it.

2022 Cabernet Sauvignon

A luscious full flavoured wine expressing vibrant notes of cassis and blackberry with an alluring hint of spice. Sumptuous mouthfeel with a pleasingly memorable lingering finish.

John Linnett – The Publican without a pub

John was a mystery man, he called himself a publican, yet his name didn’t appear on the hotel licencing registers.  Local folk later discovered that he had assumed the name John White, his mother’s maiden name.  John ‘White’ claimed he had business connections in other Victorian towns under the name White and wanted to retain these relationships.  The matter went as high as Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Standish.  Standish determined that a man who was in all other respects suitable, may keep a liquor licence under any name he wishes!

Susan Birch - The Restaurateur with a strong right hook

Susan Birch had a checkered history, she was a large powerful woman and her fighting exploits were well known.  She'd had run ins with the Police in Castlemaine, Ararat and several other towns before she arrived in Landsborough.  She setup her 'restaurant' which was actually a tent and whose sole purpose was to sell sly grog.  After plying a customer with a significant volume of alcohol, she decided to help herself to his bulging purse.  The matter went to court with the victim stating to the judge, "I would not like to try and wrest my money from the prisoner."

A thoroughly captivating and complex wine. Decadently deep pink and displaying bright berry flavours enhanced with delicate hints of rose water. This is a truly memorable wine with a lively fresh yet lingering finish.

John Hayes - The Storekeeper who lost his gold

John Hayes was lured to Australia in search of gold.  Unlike many others he achieved a fair degree of success in the goldfields.  He was able to setup a successful storekeeper’s business in Landsborough, as well as operating the first Commercial Hotel.  His store was mysteriously burnt down in 1879 amidst disputes with local miners over his cattle on properties encroaching onto their mining claims.  With all records of money owing to him being lost, very few paid their bills.

2023 Viognier

An aromatic and seductive wine with a delightfully delicate mouthfeel. Vibrant notes of peach and pear soon mellow to reveal a soft honey profile while still leaving a neat clean finish.

Pairs with:

The perfect accompaniment to seafood, particularly oysters and sashimi. Pair with duck and brilliant with all cheese.

Mary Ann Chamings - The Storekeeper who befriended a bushranger

Mary Anne operated various shanty stores at different times around the goldfields in the Pyrenees region.  One store in Glenpatrick was erected by George Henderson, a local bushranger.  When he was caught and trialled, Mary Ann was required to appear as a witness at his trial. During her time as a storekeeper, she struggled to make ends meet and to assist she wasn’t averse to a little sly grogging.  Holding only a beer licence, she was caught selling spirits.  When she failed to pay the fine, a warrant was issued to seize her property.  Mysteriously her property was spirited away for safe keeping, just before the police arrived.

2024 Grenache Rosé

A delightfully dry sophisticated wine with fruit-forward flavours of red currants and berries, delicately perfumed with savoury notes. An enticingly textured mouthfeel ending in a superbly clean crisp finish.

Pairs with:

A wonderful complement to any light fresh dishes. Ideal with seafood, grilled chicken, green salads and an impeccable match for all alfresco entertaining or indeed on its own.

Jim Dummy - The Jack of All Trades without a Jill

Jim “Dummy” Perry’s humorous sayings and tall tales earned him a spot in Landsborough’s folklore. During his time, he was a rabbiter, shearer, shooter and even a bee keeper. He was a tall lanky and laconic character who never married and lived rough.  According to Dummy, marriage was a lurk where “you gave up half your tucker, just to cook the other half”.

2024 Grenache

A striking wine exhibiting all the bold jammy red fruit flavours typically associated with grenache impressively balanced with a subtle spiciness. A soft velvety mouthfeel and sensuous silky texture add extra allure.  

Pairs with: 

The ideal companion for barbecued meats, salmon or swordfish, pear and rocket pizza, chorizo, aged Comte or Manchego.

Robert Curnick: The Funeral Director who struggled to read

Robert ran the Funeral Directors at Shay’s Flat and employed both his son Fred and his grandson Arthur Hayes.  Like many in the region at the time, he turned his hand to many endeavours, establishing an Ironmongers, Drapers and a general store on the gold diggings.  He built the Wayside Inn at Shay’s Flat as well as a family home “Holmwood” directly opposite.  Robert could not read or write, and when his time came, with the sign of a cross his Shays Flat property and Inn were willed to his son Fred.
